The ECOWAS Court of Justice on a sensitization mission to Dakar
A delegation of the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS will be in Dakar from 22 to 28 February 2020 on an awareness-raising mission in Senegal, an ECOWAS member state.
The delegation, which will be led by the Honourable Vice-President of the Court, Honourable Justice Ouattara Gbèri-bè, accompanied, among others, by his other colleagues, the Chief Registrar and the Director of Research and Documentation, will meet with a diverse audience on the functioning of the Court.
Aiming to bring the Court closer to Senegalese citizens, the mission is part of a vast awareness campaign that the Court has undertaken since last year to inform the populations of the most remote towns and rural areas through the media on its existence and encourage them to apply to it when needed.
During their stay, and in order to speak fully of the Court, the members of the delegation will first hold an awareness campaign at the N’diambour hotel located in rue Carnot from 9:30am, on Tuesday, 25 February 2020. Thereafter, there will be a special forum for lawyers and law students on Wednesday, 26 February 2020. Finally, on Thursday, 27 February 2020, there will be an open forum.
These various meetings will bring together members of the Bar Associations, immigration, customs and police officials, civil society organizations, women associations and the media. Senegalese officials, professional organizations and judges are also expected to attend these various meetings.
The members of the mission will endeavor to explain the merits of the establishment of this main judicial body by the founding fathers of ECOWAS for whom integration by law is essential for the regional integration process. Furthermore, they will talk about its mission, jurisdiction and modus operandi. In addition, the members of the mission will focus on the status of implementation of its decisions.
The visit will end with a press conference to be attended by all categories of media.
It should be noted that this itinerant mission is a follow-up to the one that just took place in Côte d’Ivoire from 16 to 22 February 2020 with the same objective of bringing the Court closer to Community citizens.
